adenoid facies, a long face and open-mouth posture, sometimes seen in children with hypertrophy of the pharyngeal tonsils ("adenoids"). Chronic nasal airway obstruction is believed to affect facial growth characteristics. adenoids (ad´ adj See tonsil, pharyngeal. adenoid facies, n an older term used to describe patients who exhibit a long, narrow face, short upper lip, oral cavity breathing, and a hyperactive swallowing pattern.
