A combined method of thermal shock and desiccation was used to induce spawning every 15 days in September and October (spring), as follows: specimens were maintained in emersion for one hour at room temperature (16 [+ or -] 2[degrees]C) and subsequently at 30[degrees]C for 30 min; they were then transferred to aquaria and kept in permanent darkness with ad libitum feeding at a temperature of 12[degrees]C.
