Actinobacillus /Ac·ti·no·bac·il·lus/ (-bah-sil´us) a genus of potentially pathogenic schizomycetes (family Pasteurellaceae), causing granulomatous lesions.
Actinobacillus [ak′tinōbasil′əs] a genus of small, gram-negative bacillus, with members that are pathogenic for humans and other animals. The species Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans is the cause of actinomycosis in humans. Actinobacillus [ak″tĭ-no-bah-sil´us] a genus of gram-negative, nonmotile, coccoid or rod-shaped bacteria that are part of the normal microflora of mammals. The organisms are capable of infecting cattle and other domestic animals and, rarely, are associated with human infection; A. ligniere´sii is the causative agent of actinobacillosis.

These microorganisms have also been found in pathologic lesions of the alveolar processes (actinomycosis). A. israelii n.pl a normally occurring oral bacteria that aggressively causes infection (actinomycosis) when oral health is compromised. A. naeslundii n a specific strain of bacteria resident in open sores in the oral cavity. A. viscosus,
n a species of Actinomyces occurring in high numbers in the dental plaque, cemental caries, and tonsillar crypts. Actinobacillus a genus of bacteria which are gram-negative, pleomorphic rods. Actinobacillus actinoides a secondary agent in seminal vesiculitis in bulls and enzootic pneumonia in calves. Actinobacillus actinomycetemcomitans associated with epididymitis in rams and periodontal disease and endocarditis in humans. Actinobacillus capsulatus the cause of arthritis and septicemia in rabbits. Actinobacillus equuli the cause of septicemia and subsequent focal lesions in young foals and also peritonitis in adult horses. Previously called Shigella equirulis. Actinobacillus lignieresi the cause of actinobacillosis of cattle and sheep, and occasionally in pigs, dogs and humans. Actinobacillus mallei see burkholderiamallei. Actinobacillus pleuropneumoniae causes severe pleuropneumonia and pleuritis in pigs. Previously Haemophilus pleuropneumoniae. Actinobacillus salpingitidis the proposed name for a bacteria which is isolatable from cases of salpingitis, peritonitis, airsacculitis and pneumonia in birds. Called also Pasteurella salpingitis. Actinobacillus seminis the cause of epididymitis and periorchitis in rams. Actinobacillus suis the cause of septicemia and subsequent focal lesions in young pigs.
