Non-hereditary porphyria cutanea tarda (about 80% of cases are acquired), which is most commonly linked to ethanol, oestrogens and hepatotoxins. The clinically similar epidemic toxic prophyria occurs in a population exposed to polyhalogenated aromatic hydrocarbons.
