acepromazine, acetylpromazine
one of the phenothiazine derivative psychotropic drugs, used in animals as a means of chemical restraint. Its principal value is in quietening and calming frightened and aggressive animals. The standard pharmaceutical preparation, acepromazine maleate, is used extensively in horses, cats and dogs, especially as a preanesthetic agent.

The discovery of ACP - full name acetylpromazine - raised the spectre of the infamous 'Needle Man' Dermot Browne, who claimed to have used it to dope 23 horses in the space of two months in 1990.
The owner of two of the animals claims to have seen something fall from one horse's mouth and found an acetylpromazine (ACP) sedative tablet on the ground.
The track is to be visited by Jockey Club investigators after Hachty Boy returned a positive test for the 'stopping' drug acetylpromazine following a novice chase there in May.
