Acetonaemia

The presence of an excess of acetone in the blood, which occurs in ketoacidosis due to alcohol abuse, uncontrolled diabetes (ketoacidosis), starvation and prolonged fasting.

The presence of acetone or acetone bodies in relatively large amounts in the blood.

acetonaemia

Excessive quantities of acetone bodies in the blood. This may occur in uncontrolled DIABETES or in starvation. A commoner term is KETOSIS; the condition is the cause of diabetic coma. See also ACETONE BODY.
