abomasitis

inflammation of abomasum; occurs as part of many gastroenteritides but seldom diagnosed as a separate condition. The organ's location aboral to the forestomachs provides some protection against dietary insults. Abomasitis caused by Clostridium sordelli is an emerging problem in sheep in Great Britain, manifest with sudden death. Lambs between 6 and 10 weeks are particularly at risk. See also abomasum.
