abdominal gestation

the implantation of a fertilized ovum outside the uterus but within the peritoneal cavity. See also ectopic pregnancy.

A type of ECTOPIC PREGNANCY in which a FETUS develops outside the womb but in the abdominal cavity. This is a dangerous state of affairs liable to lead to profuse internal bleeding.
