post-trauma syndrome

 
a nursing diagnosis accepted by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, defined as the experiencing by an individual of a sustained maladaptive response to an overwhelming traumatic event or events such as a natural disaster, war, epidemic, rape, assault, or catastrophic illness or accident. See also posttraumatic stress disorder.
risk for p.-t. s. a nursing diagnosis accepted by the North American Nursing Diagnosis Association, defined as being at risk for sustained maladaptive response to a traumatic, overwhelming event.
