 [ploor″o-din´e-ah]
1. pain in the pleural cavity; called also pleuralgia.
2. costalgia (def. 2).
epidemic pleurodynia an epidemic disease usually caused by group B coxsackieviruses and sometimes by group A coxsackieviruses, echoviruses, and other enteroviruses, marked by a sudden attack of violent pain in the chest, fever, and a tendency to recurrence on the third day. Called also devil's grip and Bornholm disease.

1. Pleuritic pain in the chest.
2. Paroxysmal pain and soreness of the muscles between the ribs.
3. An epidemic disease caused by a coxsackievirus, characterized by paroxysmal pain in the lower chest and accompanied by fever, headache, and malaise.
