metameric segmentation

the division of the body of an organism (e.g. the earthworm) into a series of similar or identical units recurring along the length of the body. These units are known as segments or metameres.

In each metamere there is a pattern of muscle blocks, blood vessels, excretory organs, epidermal structures and elements of the nervous system.
