marker biopsy
marker biopsy
A term of art for a biopsy of breast lesion which is obtained after multiple radio-opaque markers (clips) have been placed by radiologic guidance and the region imaged. Once the cancer or suspicious lesion is excised, the pathologist uses the clips to orient the specimen and determine completeness of excision, whether further therapy is needed, and/or where margins need to be extended.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
