An isoquinoline alkaloid obtained from the mother liquor of morphine; it causes tetanic convulsions.

Anesthesiology A metabolite of atracurium, an intermediate-acting nondepolarizing muscle relaxing anesthetic; laudanosine is epileptogenic, crosses the blood-brain barrier, and may accumulate in the elderly, and in renal failure. See Muscle relaxant. Nondepolarizing agent. Cf Depolarizing agent.
