A benign erythema that longitudinally ‘sections’ the prone infant into a pale upper and a vividly flushed lower half—most prominent from forehead to pubis—related to autonomic vascular lability. The harlequin skin reaction is rare and more common in premature or low-birth-weight neonates; like erythema neonatorum, it is a transient vasomotor phenomenon of no clinical significance
