carr
a fen-like, woodland terrain with sallow and alder, created where silt and peat are deposited on the edges of fresh water bodies. Carr woodland is often succeeded by oak woodland, but where there is heavy rainfall, such as in the Lake District, the normal succession is to RAISED BOG.Collins Dictionary of Biology, 3rd ed. © W.
