(kahr'dē-ō-pul'mŏ-nār-ē splăngk'nik nĕrvz) Visceral branches of the sympathetic trunks conveying postsynaptic sympathetic fibers to and visceral afferent fibers from viscera located above the diaphragm, mainly through the cardiac, pulmonary, and esophageal plexuses. The cervical and upper thoracic splanchnic nerves are part of this group.
