Orthopedics A plate commonly seen on postoperative films, usually shaped at an oblique or right angle for subtrochanteric or supracondylar fractures of the femur, occasionally used to bridge a femoral osteotomy; one arm has a chisel-shaped end driven into the bone, bridging the fracture; the other arm is used as a side plate and anchored to the bone with multiple screws.
