Ulcers of the skin, and, in some severe cases, of the underlying muscles also, caused by local deprivation of blood supply as a result of sustained pressure. Bed sores are sometimes called decubitus ulcers or pressure sores. They can be avoided by regular changes of position and by skilled nursing.
