azurocidin-1
azurocidin-1
A protein encoded by AZU1 on chromosome 19q13.3, which is an azurophil granule protein of the serine protease family—but is not itself a serine protease. It has monocyte chemotactic and antibacterial activity, and acts an important multifunctional inflammatory mediator. The azurocidin-1 gene is clustered with neutrophil elastase 2 and proteinase 3 at chromosome 19pter; all three are expressed and packaged together into azurophil granules during neutrophil differentiation.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc.
