artificial lungs
Experimental devices for maintaining the oxygenation of the blood and the removal of carbon dioxide. Considerable research has shown that, in theory, such devices can be made small enough for implantation in the human body. New polymer membranes, using polyimide material with added fluorine have been developed, that, compared with previous materials, improve oxygen transfer 70 times and carbon dioxide transfer 100 times.Collins Dictionary of Medicine © Robert M.
