anti-reflection coating 

A thin film of transparent material, usually a metallic fluoride (e.g. magnesium fluoride), deposited on the surface of a lens which increases transmission and reduces surface reflection. Abbreviated: AR coating. Syn. anti-reflection film. See coating; Fresnel's formula; ghost image; coated lens.
