anencephalic organ donor

anencephalic organ donor

An infant born with anencephaly who is viewed as a potential source of organs for transplantation.

The “harvesting” of organs from patients who are not dead, as defined by the Uniform Determination of Death Act, has serious ethical implications; the AMA’s Council on Ethical and Judicial Affairs opines that retrieval of organs from AODs should only occur after official death.
