anal dilatation test

A test used along with other signs to help in the detection of anal sexual abuse in children. The buttocks are gently parted and, after a short time, the anus opens (reflex dilatation). This effect, alone, provides no conclusive evidence and occurs in up to 14% of children who have never been abused. Other signs of anal sexual abuse include anal tears (fissures), loss of SPHINCTER control, shortening and eversion of the ANAL CANAL, vein congestion and reddening in the area and thickening of the surrounding tissues.
