RFX1
RFX1
A gene on chromosome 19p13.1 that belongs to the regulatory factor X gene family, which encode transcription factors that contain a highly conserved winged-helix DNA-binding domain. RFX1 is a transcriptional activator that can bind DNA as a monomer or as a heterodimer with other regulatory factor (RF) family members—RFX2, RFX3 and RFX5 (but not with RFX4)—binding specifically to the X-boxes of MHC class-II genes, which is essential for the expression of MHC II genes. It can also bind to an inverted repeat (ENH1), which is required for expression of hepatitis B virus genes.Segen's Medical Dictionary. © 2012 Farlex, Inc. All rights reserved.
