ARCOS study

Auckland Region Coronary Or Stroke. A population-based survey derived from the acute version of the English (Australia/New Zealand) short-form questionnaire, which identified all the cases of stroke (1761 patients, 639 alive at follow-up, 594 interviewed) that occurred in Auckland, New Zealand, in the calendar year 1991-1992; ARCOS compared the differences in health-related quality of life among various types of stroke, exclusive of subarachnoid haemorrhage: primary intracerebral haemorrhage, 5%; cerebral infarction, 29%; undefined, 66%.
Conclusion The ARCOS stroke cohort reported decreased physical functioning and vitality. Their general health and mental health scores indicated that they were coping well psychologically.
