Cardiology
Advanced Elements of Pacing Trial. A trial comparing dual chamber pacemakers without rate response (DDD) and dual chamber pacemakers with rate response (DDDR).
Conclusion
An implantable cardioverter-defibrillator (ICD) that aggressively modulates heart rate (e.g., with DDDR pacing) does not improve exercise capacity or quality of life compared with non-aggressive pacing (e.g., DDD). Atrial fibrillation is more common with mode switching (MS) on; hospitalisation for CHF is more common with MS off.
