Q. Nausea and Migraine
Since yesterday I have migraine and feel very nauseous. I tried to take my regular meds but the nausea still won't go. I can't get to my doctor until tomorrow, and the nausea and migraine is making me feel really bad. Is there anything I can do to treat the nausea? What about OTC meds? Do you know any that may be helpfull?
|A1||What I do when I have nausea is drinking a can of Coke (the regular, not diet or caffeine-free). If that doesn't help, I have some anti-nausea OTC meds I use. |
There are also very good prescription meds, but you need to see the doctor for that.
A friend of mine says that what helps him is drinking very hot water (as hot as he can tolerate), so if other things doesn't help you may want to try this…
|A2||I also have terrible nausea during my migraine attacks. What usually helps is ginger, either as sipping ginger-ale or ginger candies.|
You can also try to eat cold food. When you get to your doctor, ask him/her for a prescription for anti-nausea meds for the next time.
Hope I could help!
Q. Could nausea harm the baby?
Hi everyone, I am in first trimester end stage. I live with nausea from day 1 of my pregnancy. Every morning is a great battle for me. I do know that nausea is common during pregnancy but need to know when I will be alright. Could nausea harm the baby?
|A1||Hey, justin.. In normal condition, the ‘nausea and vomit’ feeling will be gradually decreasing by the age of 14-16 weeks of pregnancy (so you will feel less of that nausea feeling soon). If it still happens after the 1st trimester, or if the vomit is becoming worse, then a complete work up should be done.|
Go see your OB-GYN doctor to make sure either your case is a normal one or you're experiencing the "hyperemesis gravidarum".
Hyperemesis gravidarum means the severe form of ‘morning sickness’ that will affect the balance health level of the pregnant mom. The treatment will firstly concern about the need of rest for the affected mother, and replacing the fluids that had been lost before. Some additional antiemetics and antihistamine, and even corticosteroids can be useful in treating a patient. Close monitoring is important in this case.
|A2||Doctors say it is because of the hormones which are secreted during pregnancy. Some hormones increases during pregnancy and relaxes the uterine muscles, which prevents early labor... but may also relax the stomach and intestines, leading to excess stomach acids. The hormone hCG which confirm your pregnancy plays a big havoc with other hormones. On the other hand it’s a process of eliminating toxic and harmful substances from your stomach. This will not harm the baby rather this procedure saves the baby by throwing the toxic out. If you consume less toxic food its good for baby. As during first trimester there are high chances of baby having birth defects as the baby gets proper shapes at this stage and any toxicity will bring birth defects.|
Q. How to stop feeling nauseous during my pregnancy?
I am pregnant and feel sick all the time. Any remedies to recommend?
|A1||Very rich and spicy foods can cause nausea so try to stay away from them. Eat smaller meals and more frequently, drink tea and eat toasts which are good against nausea.|
|A2||*Step1Add a teaspoonful of ginger to a morning cup of tea. Ginger is a folk remedy for preventing or curing nausea and many women also report great success in controlling their nausea from drinking ginger ale, eating ginger snaps or sucking on ginger-flavored "preggie pops." |
*Step3Try a different brand of prenatal vitamin. It is important that you get adequate amounts of vitamins and minerals, but some vitamins may be more nausea-inducing than others. See if you can find a timed-release formula or change the time of day you take your pill, perhaps swallowing one right before you go to bed so you can (hopefully) sleep through any nausea. http://www.ehow.com/how_2279426_prevent-nausea-during-pregnancy.html?ref=fuel&utm_source=yahoo&utm_medium=ssp&utm_campaign=yssp_art
|A3||For most women the nausea passes by week 14 of the pregnancy. However if you still have nausea try to avoid greasy food and drink a lot of water.|
Q. How long will the morning sickness last? I'm so nauseous!
I can't wait to the childbirth :)
my wife had them only in her first trimester if i remember correctly... something like 13th week.
is it your first?
Q. My Prenatal Vitamin Makes Me Nauseous, What Should I Do?
I am taking Prenatal Vitamins during my pregnancy; however they are making me feel nauseous. What to do?
|A1||you can also take childrens vitamins|
|A2||It happened to me too when I was pregnant. Some prenatal vitamins can cause nausea. I suggest trying a different one, there are so many different kinds out there and not all of them will have the same effects on you.|
|A3||try breaking the pill in smaller parts, and take a peice through out the day, also eat crackers with the pill.|
Q. What foods and beverages are best to give with cancer/chemo related nausea and vomiting?
My father is undergoing chemo for malignant melanoma that has spread to liver/lungs/kidneys. He has constantly nausea and vomits at the drop of a hat. How do I get some nutrition into him? What would help other than prescription meds which he is already on?
|A1||If he's vomiting, he needs to ask for his anti-sickness meds to be changed or adjusted. They are much better these days, and I found that though I felt nauseous I never vomited.|
He should eat whatever he feels he can manage or will make him feel better. Don't worry too much about him getting a healthy or balanced diet, he can put that right when chemo's over. I went through a stage during chemo when I only wanted mashed potatoes; bland carbohydrate was all I fancied, and I ate a lot of them!
I found that ginger in any form helps with nausea - ginger tea, ginger biscuits, crystallized ginger - anything. Cola helped too - some people find it more effective if it's allowed to go flat before drinking it.
Hope your dad gets some relief soon.
|A2||Acupuncture, acupressure, and Chinese herbal medicine can all help to relieve nausea from chemotherapy. |
You can try giving him ginger and cardamon as food supplements. There is more information detailed in this article:
Stronger Chinese herbal medicine formulas are available by seeing a practitioner of Chinese herbal medicine who specializes in complementary chemotherapy treatments.
You can also try some acupressure on your father. P6 is a well-known point for managing nausea. This article provides guidance on locating and using this powerful point:
Seeing a Licensed Acupuncturist for acupuncture treatment can be one of the most effective ways of combating the nausea.
|A3||One thing to consider is possible using plastic utensils. Many people mention that the metal utensils leave a bad taste in their mouth. Just something that may help.|
Q. My wife is pregnant and she is now in the first trimester. Her queasiness is disturbing her a lot.
My wife is pregnant and she is now in the first trimester. Her queasiness is disturbing her a lot. She calls it as morning sickness. Almost all the day she feels nauseated whether she vomits or not. But every day she will throw once to have some relief for some time. I worry that this sickness can harm the baby. She does not want to meet the doctor as she says it’s normal with everyone who is pregnant. But I am worried can anyone give some advice?
|A1||my advice to you is the nausea and vomiting is a common thing that happens in first trimester. but be careful if the nausea and vomiting become more often and worse, by that time you must go to a doctor to find some help and therapy. it is called hyperemesis gravidarum.|
so, make sure that what happened to your wife is in normal range, and good luck with her pregnancy! stay healthy always..
|A2||Yes it’s normal and you must not get worried. It will not harm the baby. But she must take care as she must not starve herself even though she vomits or feels nauseated. This can lead to lack of nutrients which your wife and baby require. This can effect on her pregnancy. To have control on vomiting, she can try to have meals at short intervals and in reduced quantity. She can engage herself in any hobby of her choice to feel good. She can also listen to good music which calms the mind. Doctors also prescribe tablets but that should not be taken throughout pregnancy.|
