Q. My mom had her lump removed and still she is undergoing many tests.. why?

My mom had her lump removed and still she is undergoing many tests ……..why so many tests are taken ……Is there any problem yet?
AThese are known as monitoring tests. These tests are taken to know that the therapies are working well and they are also used to check the recurrence of cancer.

Q. Should they still be having suicidal thoughts?

Hi there, if someone who has been diagnosed as a rapid - cycling bipolar is on Epival, should they still be having suicidal thoughts and is there anything else that could be added in terms of medication to stabilize them?
A1Seek help right away when suicidal thoughts begin to creep in. It is important to pay attention to them right at the beginning and seek help right away so they dont get too bad. Like the others said there are a lot of medications that can be very helpful. My partner is also a rapid cycler and is on and antidepressant, a mood stabilizer, an anti psychotic and an anti anxiety medication which is working well/ However like the rest she needs enough sleep and enough excercise to keep her stable
A2I have just been told that I'm a rapid-cycler. But I pretty much guessed it anyway. I take a mood stabiliser (Tegretol), anti-anxiety (Buspar) Escitalopram (cipralex), and anti-psychotic (chlorpromazine). The SSRI keeps me up and slightly manic, although I have to agree if I don't get enough sleep the cycles keep on going. My family doctor said that it depends on the type of cycles you have. If they are depressive then they prefer lithium and if they are manic they prefer anti-convulsants. SSRI's are only safe with either of these. Hope this helps you Waylon.
A3I don't know when you have posted, but I’ve been told that the best things for rapid cycling are anti convulsants (like topomax, etc) or anti pshychotics, and that anti depressents and lithium's can make it worse.

Q. Still there are some fluctuations in my weight every month. Can anyone explain?

I am an obese guy. But still there are some fluctuations in my weight every month. Sometimes it goes up and sometimes it goes down. But overall I remain as overweight. I was told that I am having water weight and the reason given was that of fast foods. But I am confused. Can anyone explain?
AThe salt in the junk foods will retain water in the cells. Thus this retained water increases the body weight. So, high salt consumption can lead to water retention. This is known as water weight. And this can also lead to high blood pressure. Stop consuming fast foods which helps in losing weight.

Q. When you get sick (runny nose, cold, cough) do you still workout?

A1Hmm, depending on how sick I am, I will usually just workout anyway. I feel it mentally helps me.
A2this is a big argue between my roommate and me. he is a medical student and we go running together. he caught a cold about 2 weeks ago and still wanted to continue training. i said it's stupid- he said it won't pose a problem. of course i was right and he came back in a bad shape that day and he is still coughing and did not get rid of the illness yet. if he would have listened to me then and stayed at home and taking care of himself he wouldn't have to suffer that much today.

Q. What tests can the doctors do to see if I have cancer cells still in me?

Am using my friend user name. I had a mastectomy in October of the 3cms lump. They also removed lymph nodes from armpit. They found that 2 nodes were slightly infected and 2 blood vessels leading away were the same. My oncologist says I should start chemo for 5 months followed by 5 wks of radiotherapy. I am awaiting the results from bone, heart, lungs and blood tests. What tests can the doctors do to see if I have cancer cells still in me?
A1You need to have your own self examination, which you can get guidance from doctor and all the tests which you already had and the tests which you are awaiting. Like you may have clinical examination, mammograms- which you already had, breast biopsy, ultrasonography, post biopsy pathology test, HER-2 gene test to find the speed of your tumor growth. Tests to check cancer spread – like lymph, bone, liver and lungs whose results you are waiting for.
A2today there's little to do in order to find cells. but there are treatments that are able (in breast cancer) to locate and help chemotherapy destroy it. but it sometimes ineffective. it's called Herceptin- an antibody which targets a certain protein on breast cancer cells. the problem is that advanced cancer can reduce the amount of the protein getting the drug ineffective.

Q. can you get poly-cystic ovarian syndrome when you still have your menstrual cycle?

A1polycystic ovarian syndrome is when the egg does not come out- so i guess there is no menstrual that month. but as far as i know it's not every month that an egg decides to stay at home after 18... i guess you can check up more exact at this site:
A2Yes you can. Polycystic ovary syndrome (PCOS) is a health problem that can affect a woman's menstrual cycle, ability to have children, hormones, heart, blood vessels, and appearance. With PCOS, women typically have:

high levels of androgens (AN-druh-junz). These are sometimes called male hormones, although females also make them.
missed or irregular periods
many small cysts (sists) in their ovaries. Cysts are fluid-filled sacs.

Q. I'm 42 yrs old and am still trying to lose post baby fat.

I have tried combination of meds to lose about 10Ibs. I exercise 5 times a week - walking and swimming but my extra pounds remains the same. My diet plan is good and I do loads of walking as well! I won’t eat snacks. I'm 42 yrs old and am still trying to lose post baby fat. I need some suggestion. Thank you.
AMy friendly recommendation is to consult a natural health physician and measure your PH level, follow his instructions and you will surely get the desired result soon. Another option is to try Chinese herb meds; where Chinese medicine is usually a bunch of herbs that are good for you anyways even if it didn’t get you the results. Chinese system of medication is safe without any side effects like rashes, allergy etc. But I never recommend self-medication.
