xan·tho·gran·u·lo·ma·tous py·e·lo·ne·phri·tis

a form of pyelonephritis that results in a chronic inflammatory condition; the kidney enlarges and becomes less functional or nonfunctional; characterized histologically by the presence of lipid-laden, foamy macrophages and multiple granulomas. Can mimic neoplasms and renal tuberculosis and is a global process that affects the whole kidney.
