Collapsing pulse A booming, bounding, or pistol-shot-like sound auscultated in aortic regurgitation or in a large patent ductus arteriosus–PDA; the so-called 'small water hammer pulse' is due to a brisk rise in systemic arterial pressure in the face of normal pulse pressure
