Blood smears were performed in duplicates, later stained with May-Grunwald/Giemsa/Wright, for total thrombocyte and leukocyte counts and differential leukocyte count.
Thrombocytes are counted in the ideal zone of a smear stained with LS where there is fairly proportionate distribution of leucocytes and thrombocytes.
A thrombocyte replacement solely may not be enough in cases that need an emergency surgical intervention.
This parameter is not affected by thrombocyte count deficiency (Smith et al., 2005).
In the present study, no significant differences were found for clotting time and thrombocyte counts of fish exposed to acute high levels of zinc, compared to control (Figure 1a,b).
The total erythrocyte, leukocyte, and thrombocyte counts were determined using the Natt and Herrick's method as described by Thrall et al.
The digital microscope (DM) makes use of a digital camera, which is capable of generating high-resolution images of leukocytes, red blood cells, and thrombocytes. The systems are equipped with software capable of not only detecting these cells, but also subsequently classifying them in the correct cell class.
In brucellosis, thrombocyte recovery usually occurs within 1-3 weeks of initiating appropriate antimicrobial therapy.
The increased leukocyte and thrombocyte counts and decreased hemoglobin values are other reliable markers of inflammation and degree of disease activity.
