thiopental sodium

(thī′ō-pĕn′tăl′, -tôl′)
n.
A barbiturate, C11H17N2O2SNa, that takes effect rapidly, used to induce general anesthesia, as an anticonvulsant, and for euthanasia. Also called sodium thiopental.
