The axial length,
spherical equivalent, weight, height, and body mass index (BMI) values of each participant were noted.
In addition, eyes with best-corrected visual acuity worse than 20/30 and high
spherical equivalent (SE) values (<-6.0 D or >+3.0 D) were excluded from the study.
Sum of the sphere plus half the cylindrical power was calculated as the
spherical equivalent. All refractive and IOP measurements were repeated three times by same examiner (BA).
Of the 570 eyes that underwent cataract surgery, 395 (75%) had recorded preoperative target
spherical equivalents. Of these 88% were within +-1 D of target
spherical equivalent post-operatively by automated refraction.
There were no significant differences in patient age, BCVA, axial length, and
spherical equivalent diopter between the two groups (Table 1).
Concurrently, the company's Phase 3 trial will enroll 500 subjects aged three to 17 years with myopia
Spherical Equivalent Refraction (SER) of at least -0.50 D and no greater than -6.00 D in each eye.
Both superficial ([sz] = −0.850 and 0.460, respectively) and deep ([sz] = −0.766 and 0.396, respectively) macular vascular density were associated with AL and
spherical equivalent (all P < 0.001).
Using a more recent prism-ballasted, but non-truncated, design, Cho and colleagues found no significant difference in comfort between this design and its
spherical equivalent. (24)
