signal anxiety

signal anxiety

Anxiety that serves as an early warning for the ego, which can anticipate potential danger and react to it by deploying emergency defences. It may progress to an anxiety attack or panic if the signal is ignored or if available defences fail; a situation can become emotionally traumatic when stimuli overload the psyche.
