Pleuronectidae
a family of TELEOST fish, such as the flounder, that start life with normal symmetry but undergo a development as a result of which the eyes come to be on one side, the head is twisted and the fish, in a resting position, lies on the bottom, on its other side.Collins Dictionary of Biology, 3rd ed. © W.
