Restriction fragment length polymorphism Molecular medicine A local variation in the DNA sequence of an individual which may be detected by restriction endonucleases–which 'cut' the double-stranded DNA whenever they recognize a certain highly-specific oligonucleotide sequence or 'restriction' site.
