The bulky muscle group on the front of the thigh, consisting of four muscles arising from the thigh bone (femur), and from the front of the pelvis. These muscles end in a stout tendon which incorporates the kneecap (patella) and is attached to a bony ridge on the upper end of the front of the main bone of the lower leg (tibia). The quadriceps group powerfully straighten the knee.
