protein kinase B

A serine/threonine kinase encoded by AKT1 on chromosome 14q32.32/14q32.32, which plays a key role in regulating cell survival, insulin signalling, angiogenesis, tumour formation and growth factor-induced neuronal survival. Activated AKT1 phosphorylates and inactivates components of the apoptotic machinery.
