This incompatibility between polar fibers and non-polar thermoplastic matrices leads to poor adhesion and dispersion, resulting in composites with low mechanical properties [3].
This strategy would allow the production of more homogenously dispersed composites of a hydrophobic polymer such as PP and the polar fibers. There is no disclosure, which describes such procedure in the literature.
While being a very interesting pair with many potential applications, SF and PP share important problems derived from two facts: the weak interfacial bonding between the polar fiber surface and the hydrophobic matrix, and the high viscosity of molten PP [3].
