(pīl′wûrt′, -wôrt′)
n.
Any of several plants, such as the lesser celandine and the fireweed, that are reputed to be effective in treating hemorrhoids.

Its roots are composed of a collection of tiny rhizomes joined together in one crown in an unusual construction and prompting its common name of pilewort. Each little rhizome is capable of developing into a fully fledged plant and this happens rapidly.
There are a number of herbal ointments using Pilewort herb that is astringent and healing.
The fresh young leaves of lesser celandine,also known as pilewort (don't ask!), smallwort or figwort, are rich in vitamin C and were used to treat scurvy in the past.
