Consequently, the MS enhancement is attributed to
pedogenesis, being consistent with Dearing et al.
The soils of B1 are calcareous, drought-sensitive, automorphic soils, corresponding to the Hepatica forest site type [38], which will probably be the site type formed during the
pedogenesis of former quarry sites [4].
Other definition states that the geodiversity "is the geological diversity or the variety of rocks, fossils and minerals and natural processes" (PROSSER, 2002), "geodiversity underpins biodiversity" (BUREK, 2001), and "represent the abiotic factors, which together with biodiversity give a holistic view of the landscape" (BUREK; POTTER, 2002), and "the variety of earth materials (minerals, rocks, sediments, fossils, soils and water), forms (folds, faults, landforms) and processes (tectonics, sediment transport,
pedogenesis) that constitute and shape the Earth, either the whole or a specific part of it" (GRAY, 2003).
Having said that, we know what is fundamentally required to create a sustainable food production system: close the lithospheric nutrient cycles; use only renewable energy; ensure that soil degradation rates are lower than
pedogenesis; vastly expand physical, biological, and ecological management to replace failing agrichemicals; and treat agriculture as the foundation of civilization that it is, not just a collection of market commodities.

Other factors such as climate, time, living organisms and relief are more active and increase the
pedogenesis level.
The low forest resilience, and the severity and short recurrence cycles of wildfires and herbivory disturbances, through a complex cause-effect chain, increase soil erosion susceptibility and soil toxicity, and slow down
pedogenesis. Consequently, ultramafic cover vegetation and landscapes are composed of diversified successional vegetation mosaics (Figure 3).
