Producing recycled carpet padding involves the efforts of a number of industries and businesses working together, including carpeting and padding installers, retailers, materials brokers, padding manufacturers and padding recycling companies.
One of these padding recycling companies is run by Mike Trick, president of Cushion Recyclers, with locations in Louisville and Lexington, Ky., and Kennesaw, Ga.
He adds, "Baling carpet
padding has its own set of requirements differing from corrugated or metal scrap, which these balers also handle.
"New shoulder pads have to have extra
padding, depending on where you play, and have to be cut so that they don't ride up your neck when the arms are extended."
