a broad-spectrum antibiotic of the tetracycline group produced by Streptomyces rimosus; used as the base or the hydrochloride salt, administered orally or intramuscularly.

A broad-spectrum antibiotic, C₂₂H₂₄N₂O₉, derived from the actinomycete Streptomyces rimosus and used to treat a variety of bacterial infections.

oxytetracycline

A broad-spectrum tetracycline antibiotic derived from the mould-like bacterium Streptomyces rimosus . The drug is effective against a range of GRAM POSITIVE and GRAM NEGATIVE organisms including Rickettsiae and is widely used to treat ACNE (but not in its role as an antibiotic). Oxytetracycline is formulated for external use with steroids and other ingredients under the brand names Terra-Cortril, Terra-Cortril-Nystatin and Trimovate.
