Unilateral:
Ovotestis on one side and testis or ovary on other side (20%).
Histological examination of excised gonads in case 2 revealed features of an
ovotestis with a gonadoblastoma and dysgerminomas in the left gonad and streak gonad parenchyma and PTH in the right gonad.
This condition conforms to that known as intersex (
ovotestis: the simultaneous presence of both testicular and ovarian tissue in the male gonad).
Inner lining of body wall (= parietal peritoneum) and surface of
ovotestis not pigmented.
Individuals possessing both ovarian and testicular tissue (either as one ovary and one testis, or as what is called an
ovotestis) were considered true hermaphrodites.
Some have an ovary on one side and a testis on the other, but more commonly one or both of these organs that produce reproductive cells is an
ovotestis, with a mix of both ovary and testis tissues.
Morphology of the
ovotestis of Serranus atricauda (Teleostei, Serranidae).
The adult has a complex reproductive organ known as an
ovotestis, which fertilizes its own eggs internally.
pseudoexigua pacifica are small (R [less than] 15 min), simultaneous hermaphrodites that brood their offspring inside the
ovotestis as do P.
Tissue changes of the snail host caused by these parasites in different developmental phases have been observed in different organs, including digestive gland, kidneys and
ovotestis (Souza et al., 1995; Brandolini and Amato, 2006; Pinheiro et al., 2009).
DSD are broadly classified into three categories: sex chromosome DSD, 46,XY DSD, and 46,XX DSD and are further classified according to the type of gonad found in the patient (ovary, testis,
ovotestis).
