However, since this retrospective study was conducted in tertiary hospitals, bacteria may have been present in culture-negative patients prior to antibiotic use because patients with OM with
otorrhea had a history of antibiotic use before hospital admission; thus, some culture-negative patients may have been culture-positive.
Due to its morphological characteristics (polypoid mass) and symptoms such as hearing loss, recurrent
otorrhea, and facial palsy it could easily be misdiagnosed clinically as a case of COM.
Out of these twenty five cases, there was incisional CSF leakage in twenty four cases, and there was a single case of
otorrhea. The incidence is shown in Fig.1.
Documentation regarding
otorrhea was only present in three charts.
Management of spontaneous cerebrospinal fluid
otorrhea. Laryngoscope 2008: 118: 2195-9.
The eardrops used in this study (Bacicoline-B, manufactured by Daleco Pharma) contain hydrocortisone, bacitracin, and colistin, and are active against most bacteria that cause acute tympanostomy-tube
otorrhea, such as Streptococcus pneumoniae, Haemophilus influenzae, Moraxella catarrhalis, Staphylococcus aureus, and Pseudomonas aeruginosa.
Parameters clearly differentiating patients infected with Pseudomonas aeruginosa from nonpseudomonas infection were associated with higher prevalence of diabetes (80.0% in patients with pseudomonas infection versus 54.3% in nonpseudomonas infection; P = 0.082), and patients with pseudomonas infection also more commonly complained of otalgia,
otorrhea, and otitis externa (otalgia 100% versus 60.0%, P = 0.001;
otorrhea 100% versus 80.0%, P = 0.040; and otitis externa 85% versus 54.3%, P = 0.038).
In 1965, Derlacki and Clemis proposed criteria for CC as a cholesteatoma discovered behind an intact tympanic membrane with no history of
otorrhea, prior otological intervention or previous perforations [5].
At the end of the seven day period, the
otorrhea had gone away in 28 of 34 children (82%) who received the medicine and in 13 of the 32 children (41%) who received the placebo.

A 47-year-old woman with a history of hypertension was referred to our hospital with a complaint of left
otorrhea that had persisted for 5 years.
We conducted a retrospective observational chart review to characterize
otorrhea in patients with cleft palate (CP) after tympanostomy tube placement in terms of the bacteria profile, treatment effectiveness, and overall disease burden.
