Then patient underwent
orbital exenteration; the eyelids were retained on the patient's request.
Stage III refers to any tumor that also includes the presence of regional lymph node metastasis; a locally advanced tumor requiring an enucleation or
orbital exenteration; or an anatomically nonresectable tumor.
We present a unique case of a patient with recently diagnosed primary orbital ES who underwent orbital exenteration followed by adjuvant external beam radiation treatment.
Within one month of the biopsy, the patient underwent a left orbital exenteration with partial maxillectomy and partial ethmoidectomy.
Most of our surgical patients (63.3%) had positive microscopic margins despite aggressive surgery, including maxillectomy,
orbital exenteration, and craniofacial resection.
The patient underwent extensive surgical resection and postoperative radiotherapy, but 5 months later he required
orbital exenteration for persistent disease.
More advanced lesions might require
orbital exenteration, pterygopalatine fossa resection, or skull base resection.
The third fatality was the result of multisystem organ failure 2 years after the patient had undergone a subtotal maxillectomy and
orbital exenteration; this patient had no evidence of recurrent aspergillosis at the time of death.
