Nephrology A bilateral condition of neonatal onset, characterized by small kidneys and ↓ glomeruli Clinical Vomiting, dehydration, polydipsia, polyuria, renal failure, FUO, persistent hyposthenuria Lab Proteinuria, ↓ specific gravity–1.006-1.010, microscopic hematuria DiffDx Fanconi syndrome, hypoplasia with renal dysplasia, bilateral simple hypoplasia, and secondarily contracted kidneys Management Hydration, titrate Na+, Ca2+, bicarbonate; phosphate-binding antacids, vitamin D Prognosis If no response, renal failure is inevitable, requiring dialysis or transplantation
