Yohimbine, the [[alpha].sub.2] adrenoceptor antagonist, has been reported to antagonize the antinociceptive effects of nonopioid
octacosanol when assessed using the mouse abdominal constriction test [57].

Other substances touted as having ergogenic properties are carnitine, cobamamide, growth hormone releasers,
octacosanol, and ginseng, but there is no reliable scientific evidence to support claims that products containing these compounds have ergogenic potential, and heavy supplementation may lead to adverse effects.
Literature survey revealed the presence of diterpenoids [7], triterpenoids [8], flavonoids [9] and chromone glucosides [10] from different species of the genus Chrozophora and C12-C30 hydrocarbons, cholesterol, stigmasterol, B-sitosterol, B-amyrin, squalin,
octacosanol, hexacosanol and tetracosanol from Chrozophora plicata [11].
The only fatty alcohol found was
octacosanol ([C.sub.28]), which is a compound classified as a terrestrial marker (Volkman, 1986; Bayona et al., 1989; Jeng et al., 2003).
Octacosanol isolated from Tinospora cordifolia downregulates VEG F gene expression by inhibiting nuclear translocation of NF-[alpha] and its DNA binding activity.
One of complementary medicine's greatest unacknowledged supplements is wheat germ, the source from which we derive
octacosanol.

The use of
octacosanol has been investigated by Lazarus A.
Octacosanol (HO-C[H.sub.2]-[[C[H.sub.2]].sub.26]C[H.sub.3]), a long-chain aliphatic alcohol, is the main component of a natural wax product that exists in wheat germ oil, rice bran oil, fruits or leaves (Taylor et al., 2003; de Oliveira et al., 2012).
