Its value for educational purposes in demonstrating to chemists the character and properties of "the long-sought silicon monoxid"; its use as a reducing agent in chemical reactions, and the fact that it is a
nonconductor of electricity,--are sufficient to assist in promoting the progress of the useful arts and to establish the utility of invention.
Nonconductors (insulators) need to be replaced with static dissipative/low-charging materials whenever possible.
This month we look at the necessary
nonconductors in the EPA and the mitigation of electrostatic charges that may be present on those items.
"It can image soft
nonconductors such as cell membranes without touching them, and it can image ion fluxes through pores in the membranes," says codeveloper Paul K.
Some polymers are semiconductors such as polyaniline (PANI) and some are
nonconductors like poly-methyl methacrylate (PMMA).
It is possible to run fiber-optic cable or other
nonconductors through waveguides without degrading their performance.
Similarly, use of co-joined conductors and
nonconductors presents problems because of heating nonuniformity and poor cure at the "cold" surface of the nonsusceptor.
To further upgrade ESD control, ionizers were installed in some production lines where plastics and other
nonconductors are used.
