Tumour cells with intracytoplasmic or intraluminal mucin have been reported to be positive with PAS (diastase resistant) and Mucicarmine (3, 6, 13).
Immunostaining of the resected segment of small bowel demonstrated positive staining with p63 and mucicarmine strongly resembling the staining profile of the penile and subscapularis masses in keeping with metastatic spread to the small bowel (Figures 2(c) and 2(d)).
The presence of mucin in mucous-producing neoplastic cells and extracellularly within acinar lumina was confirmed with toluidine blue and acid mucicarmine histochemical stains (Fig 3E).
Periodic acid–Schiff (PAS) and mucicarmine stain demonstrated brightly pink staining substance within their cytoplasm [Figure 1]e.
Glandular diverticulum into lymphoid tissue of proximal colon patch showed strong (+++) positive reaction for mucin by Mayer mucicarmine method.
The yeast were round to oval, 15-33 [micro]m in total diameter, with poorly staining central portions (5-12 pm in diameter) surrounded by a pale acidophilic or basophilic capsule (5-21 [micro]m thick), which stained positively with a mucicarmine stain.
The cyst walls are thick and birefringent, stained with hematoxylin and eosin (deeply magenta), Grocott Gomori methenamine silver stain (GMS), digested periodic acidSchiff, and Mayer mucicarmine. The sporangia are below the surface, not within the epithelium.
Staining by hematoxylin and eosin, and mucicarmine or PAS with diastase was performed on 5-mm sections in all specimens embedded in paraffin and reviewed by two pathologists (VKS and VLC).
(iv) luminal mucin is PAS positive and mucicarmine positive [7].
On biopsy, the cell wall will stain with either methenamine silver or periodic acid-Schiff, and the capsule will stain with mucicarmine or Alcian blue.
